STACEY WAKELIN ANNOUNCES RUN FOR TRUSTEE IN THE LANGLEY SCHOOL BOARD
BY-ELECTION
“We all have a stake in the education of our children. Let's work together to put them first.”
Township of Langley, BC – Stacey Wakelin, community leader and Willoughby resident, declares her candidacy for the upcoming February 2021 By election for Langley School Board Trustee. With two high school students in the house, Wakelin knows first-hand how necessary it is for children and youth to spend their days in a well-functioning school system, and how vital it is that each one of them receive the support they need to thrive.
“Stacey continues to find inspiring ways to focus her remarkable skill-set on improving the lives of children and families in Langley. In everything she does, Stacey is collaborative and hard-working; she will undoubtedly contribute to a positive and constructive working atmosphere on Langley School Board. Furthermore... serving as a Trustee on the Langley School Board will be an excellent use of her talents and voice.” - Cheryl Wiens, Willoughby Resident, Chair of the KPU Biology Program Advisory Committee
During the past half dozen years of actively organizing within the community, Wakelin has earned a reputation for her willingness to work with people, for her fearlessness, for her perseverance, and for her compassion, which underlies everything she does. She may be best known for the parent/family advocacy group, BC Families for Inclusivity, which she founded to counter the hate-filled rhetoric of the anti-LGBTQ lobby. However, her activities have also included advocating and organizing for street involved individuals and seniors experiencing homelessness. She has volunteered with refugee/newcomer support organizations, and is currently working on an anti-racism project with Options Community Services.
“Stacey is a woman of integrity, courage, and community... I have witnessed Stacey have the courage to stand for her beliefs and I have witnessed Stacey stand with others whose voices needed to be heard. I have no doubt that Stacey will serve our children, parents/caregivers, and staff well in our District.” - Cecelia Reekie, Langley Resident, Former Trustee of the Langley School District
Wakelin is relentless in her pursuit of answers, of workable solutions, and of best practices. Recent elections have had an aggressiveness that is becoming more common in Canadian politics. However, that kind of polarization does nothing for the work that needs to be done to support our schools, and their students and staff, especially during a pandemic. Wakelin will continue to stay focused on what she does best: listen, ask questions, research, build consensus, build relationships, and build community. This is who she is, and, if elected, this is what she will bring to the position of Trustee on the Langley School Board.
